Who knew that life could change so fast in such an quick second... Wednesday afternoon Mike and his friend were around the Lucan area and heard a fire call for Lucan to a house fire, so they went directly to the scene, he said they had to have gotten there within minutes from when Lucan was dispatched out. Unfortunately, they were the first to arrive on scene and found a hysterical mother that still had 2 of her children trapped inside the house. She claimed that the two children were in the upstairs in the corner room. Thankfully for my husbands life, there was no possible way for him to get to that part of the house without risking his own life.... As, they waited the 10 to 15 minutes for the fire dept to arrive, I just can't begin to imagine the feeling of being so helpless knowing that two children were still trapped inside.
It was bitter cold that night and very icy! But, yet, local fire departments still responded for water to assist. Unfortunately, one of Vesta's fireman, jumped off the back of the firetruck and slipped on the ice and ended up getting his legs run over by the fire truck. Due to the windy conditions, they were unable to air ambulance him, so instead, he was transferred by ambulance to Mankato and then a surgeon was transported via State Patrol to Mankato to preform his surgery.
Lucan fire deptartment had 3 hour shifts all through the night to make sure the house didn't start back up and also to secure the scene. Yesterday, they flew in a helicopter of additional fire marshalls and detectives to help solve some of the un-answered questions. About noon, yesterday, Mike got a call requesting that he bring the mini excavator over to assist in the investigation. By, this time, the body of the 7 year old girl had already been recovered. So, they were still looking for the 4 year old boy. Mike said he dug through every inch of the house and unfortunately for Mike, but fortunately for the family's sake, found the little boy, under the basement steps. I just can't imagine. He said, it's something he never wants to do again.
Hug your children extra tight! I know that I sure have been hugging Brooklyn extra:)
| one of my friends, Dinah, posted this on her facebook page that she took yesterday morning. I thought it was just beautiful and looks so peaceful.... those children are dancing in heaven! |
